The Republic of Croatia allows the entry of
five or fewer pets into the country, which is considered
a non-commercial movement of animals. Entry regulations apply to dogs, cats and ferrets accompanied by the owner. When entering the country, your pet must meet the following conditions:
- It must have a
microchip
- It must be
vaccinated against rabies
- It must have a
valid passport or certificate in which everything is certified by a veterinarian
All of the above is inspected by
customs officers at the very entrance to the country, and it is important to note that vaccination is only considered valid if at least 21 days have passed. The validity period of the vaccine is determined by the producer.
If the animals are
less than 3 months old and have not been vaccinated, they
must have a valid passport, a microchip and a veterinary certificate. The certificate proves that they have not been in contact with wild animals that could transmit any infection and that they have been in the same place since birth. Dogs, cats and ferrets younger than three months, which have not been vaccinated or come from countries on the low-risk list are not allowed to enter Croatia. Countries that are on the list of low-risk rabies should be checked independently.
In case of
direct entry into the territory of the European Union from low-risk countries (e.g. a flight from Russia to Croatia) or indirect entry, just passing through another low-risk country, is
not necessary to perform a test to determine the titer of rabies antibodies. If the means of transport is a ship or an aircraft, transit through other high risk third countries is also allowed if the animal remains in the closed circle of the international airport or is locked-in on board. Countries
free of urban rabies include
all EU member states, Andorra, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino and the Vatican.
It is useful to note that the entry and temporary stay in Croatia is
prohibited for certain types of dogs. The list of dogs classified as dangerous was compiled by the International Federation of Kinesiology (FCI), based on innate traits or aggressive instinct of the dogs. The entry of the bull terrier and its crossbreeds is prohibited. All additional information can be found on the

When booking accommodation, it is always important to
check whether the owners of the house allow pets, and what the conditions are. Most landlords charge extra for the stay of the pets, and there are rules regarding the number and size of the animals themselves.
Of course, holidays also include relaxing on the beach and swimming in the sea. For this reason many cities have set up
special beaches where owners can bring their pets. All over the Adratic Sea there are beaches that are adapted for dogs, with bars where you can have a drink and enjoy the holiday with your pet.
Some cities that stand out for their beaches are: Podvorska beach in Crikvenica, part of Zarace beach on the island of Hvar, Duilovo beach in Split, Vartalac beach in Komiza, Premantura in Istria, Medena beach in Punat, Kijac beach in Njivice, Silo beach in Silo, Kantrida and Igraliste beaches in Rijeka, Tijesni bay on Susak and Strasko camp on the island of Pag.
