A new attraction was opened in July 2020 in the wonderful
Biokovo Nature Park, which stretches along the Makarska Riviera in southern Dalmatia. A heavenly promenade at a dizzying height of 1228m above sea level, that will literally take your breath away:
The Skywalk.
First of all, it takes a little courage to step onto the
glass floor of the horseshoe-shaped viewing platform. Below you can see nothing but the abyss, as the construction stands out 12m freely from the steep rock. When you have dared to step on the seemingly fragile ground and finally raise your eyes at the furthest point of the construction, it will take your breath away again. The view of the Makarska Riviera, the coastal cities, the islands and the horizon will leave you speechless. Here
you will be rewarded for your courage, with a spectacular panorama and here you will really become aware of the vastness of this world.
Let your gaze wander, because the islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula as well as the Peljesac peninsula are clearly visible from here. In good weather and clear skies, you can even see Cape Monte Gargano in Italy.
Enjoy this panorama and pause for a moment.
A maximum of 50 people are allowed to enter the Skywalk at the same time.
Jumping on the glass floor is prohibited and leaning over the railing is not permitted. But who would want that at this height? ;-)
This stunning structure was built as part of the large project “New Adrion” and is part of the
modernisation, expansion and reconstruction of the Biokovo Nature Park. New visitors are to be attracted through the expansion of roads, cycle paths and footpaths, but also through the renovation and construction of rest areas. About 1,1 million Euro went into the construction of the platform and the expansion of the existing plateau with its information center and geological pillar, which is a three-dimensional view of the cross-section of the rocks that have formed the Biokovo area from the beginning until today, with a
geological time table and a description of the age and types of rock.
There is no question, that this viewing platform will be the attraction that will draw most visitors in the future. However, numerous expansions are planned on Biokovo to make this excursion destination even more attractive. The Skywalk can be reached by car, mountain bike or on foot. Many bike paths and marked hiking trails invite you to explore the nature park further from here. Many interesting nature trails and sights accompany you through the park.
