Beautiful nature, lakes, islets and crystal clear sea make the island of Mljet a
unique paradise on Earth. The island of Mljet is the
eighth largest Croatian island, located not far from the Peljesac peninsula, the island of Korcula and the city of Dubrovnik. Given the very mild winters and dry and sunny summers, it makes it one of the sunniest Adriatic islands, that you should definitely visit. Mljet is an ideal island for exploring and to peacefully enjoy the pristine beauty of the untouched nature, and is one of the most forested and attractive pearls of the Mediterranean. A must is to visit the
Mljet National Park, which covers most of the island. It consists of several settlements and two salt-water lakes - Veliko and Malo jezero, a Benedictine monastery on the islet of St. Mary, while the place of Polacane has the best natural anchorage of the entire Adriatic.
Mljet has long been known for its
excellent gastronomy and for its menu, which could be called very delicious, primarily because of the abundance of quality fish, shellfish and other seafood. A special place in the gastronomy of the Mljet cuisine is occupied by eels prepared by traditional grilling, making a broth and many other ways.
If you are looking for adventure, we definitely recommend you to visit the
Odyssey Cave located in the southern part of the island of Mljet. The peculiarity of this cave is that in the summer months, more precisely around noon, when sunlight strikes the entire area of the cave, it creates a
beautiful color spectrum in the sea, which is of particular interest to tourists and especially to true lovers of natural phenomena and photography.
What makes Mljet even more interesting is the
Mljet Cultural Summer, which lasts as long as 40 days and will give you plenty of time to be a part of this wonderful cultural event. It is designed as one way of presenting numerous concerts, performances or exhibitions of paintings. We definitely recommend you to listen to the
traditional Croatian Klapa concerts, that will leave you breathless with their songs and at least for a minute make you forget reality and let you enjoy the moment. If you are looking for a place that exudes tranquility, nature, romance but also gives you space to explore, then the island of Mljet is ideal for you.
