MY ISTRIA GUIDE

It´s time to put the ancient town of Zadar in Dalmatia on our radar!

It´s time to put the ancient town of Zadar in Dalmatia on our radar!

Zadar - beaches, historical and cultural heritage

In one of my previous posts I divided the Croatian coast in 3 major regions: Istria, the Kvarner Bay and Dalmatia. Since you’ve already learnt something about Istria and the Kvarner Bay, it’s time for Dalmatia, more specifically, the Zadar area! If the famous Alfred Hitchcock once said that Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world, you don’t want to miss it! ;) Romantic, huh? ;) Of course, the Zadar area is more than just sun and the sea.

Zadar is an ancient city (the 5th biggest Croatian city) with historical and cultural heritage worth seeing! It’s known for its Roman ruins, medieval churches and monuments, but nowadays it’s even easier to recognize it on postcards or pictures posted on social networks thanks to its modern sights, such as the Sea Organ and the light installation “Pozdrav Suncu” (Greeting the Sun).

Small allies, Habsburg flair, Mediterranean flair, museums, galleries, churches, the Roman Forum, numerous cafes and restaurants, beach bars, clubs, beautiful beaches and the ferry port with connections to the islands nearby – yes, this is Zadar!

One of the reasons why I would definitely suggest the Zadar area is its perfect location for discovering the surroundings. Just a short drive away you will find much more than you were expecting! Who would say that such a small country as Croatia could offer such natural diversity? :)

Would you like to experience rafting on the beautiful Zrmanja River? Are you interested in hiking in the Paklenica National Park? Or just exploring sights where the Winnetou movies were made? Would you like to go on a daily trip to the Plitvice Lake National Park, my favourite Croatian national park, also listed on the Unesco World Heritage? Or would you like to visit the Kornati Island National Park and enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the unspoilt nature? Or would you prefer the Krka National Park? Do not miss the Telascica Nature Park with its cliffs and salt lake!

The Church of St. Donatus as a symbol of the city of Zadar

But I also understand if you want to spend a day on one of the beautiful beaches in the Zadar area! Here you can find numerous sandy beaches (yes, finally many sandy beaches in Croatia! ;), stone beaches, pebble beaches, rocky beaches, beaches with hidden coves and cliffs, secluded bays, nudist beaches, dog friendly beaches…

Well, to experience all this and much more, I advise you to come to Zadar and stay in one of our villas with pool in the Zadar area! :) Our villas with pool in the Zadar area offer a perfect balance of a peaceful holiday and enjoyment away from the city rush and yet they are close to all major Dalmatian tourist hotspots, as well as natural and cultural beauties. During your stay here don’t forget to taste the sweet Maraschino cherry liqueur and homemade Dalmatian prosciutto (prsut)! Until next time – bok!
