The amazing Villa Bencani sits on a terraced hilltop enjoying uninterrupted sweeping views of the glorious Istrian countryside. Words are hard to describe how magical the villa, the grounds and the setting are.
Several traditional stone houses were lovingly restored and cleverly fused into one unified whole to blend unobtrusively into their natural surroundings. It is a truly outstanding property that maximizes connections with outside spaces through oversized uniquely designed windows, large glass doors and glazed roofing panels integrated with the traditional stone walls to bring the warm Istrian light inside and make the most of the magnificent view. Both interior and exterior of this modern design stone house feature this wonderful fusion of traditional and contemporary materials. The high beamed ceilings were preserved, as was much of the beautiful old stonework, but the old floor plan made way for enormous living areas, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a stylish dining area, meticulously appointed ensuite bathrooms for each of the four beautifully designed double bedrooms and all the benefits of modern comforts such as WiFi, A/C and underfloor heating. The furnishings have a slightly classic feel, yet a modern twist with boldly coloured details and striking contemporary lighting so there is a wonderful collage of textures and colours creating a luxurious home with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The villa is cleverly configured allowing rooms on all levels to open directly into the garden or onto a beautiful elongated verandah equipped with a separate summer kitchen with a barbecue and dining area. As in the rest of the house, the focus here is on the magical view with the spacious garden that slopes gently downhill to the salt water swimming pool laced with lavender bushes and olive trees. With its two independent stone houses, one attached to and the other just opposite the main house, it is a perfect accommodation for family gatherings, or an adult group who may appreciate the opportunity for their own space. After a long day visiting the surrounding villages or towns, what a place to witness the milky-pink sunsets with the silhouette of Motovun against the skyline arching over the magical Mirna valley.
The stunningly beautiful medieval hilltop town of Motovun is known as a town-monument and exudes true Istrian charm and history offering spectacular views across hills blanketed with vineyards, hamlets and farmhouses, and the magical Mirna Valley. Traditional local festivities as well as a renowned international film festival are hosted here, bringing this peaceful little town to life. The number of towns and villages to visit is too long to list; this is the heart of Central Istria, one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It is also famous for local Teran and Malvazija grapes, virgin olive oil, home-made cheeses, prosciutto, barbecued meats, and of course truffles, all of which can be sampled in restaurants within the many villages and towns of the area. There are numerous hiking and cycling trails, one of the most stunning of them being the historical Parenzana old railroad trail which offers a unique ride on a tourist train along the route as well. Horseback riding, round or two of golf or just enjoying in the thermal waters of the nearby spa town add to this long list of activities. The main coastal resorts of Umag, Novigrad and Porec, quickly reached along excellent roads, provide extremely varied leisure facilities, good nightlife, bars and restaurants.
We stayed at Villa Bencani for a week with the extended family of 8 people. The villa was absolutely perfect for us with its 4 gorgeous bedrooms in various kind of separate houses and every possible appliance you can wish to have. The interior design is super chic and the views over the valley and Motovun from the terraces and pool amazing. The location is also very central and convenient for all kinds of day tours, also including the Slovenian Riviera and even Trieste in Italy. The hosts were very nice and helpful and we couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Very warmly recommended!

We, four couples of friends, spent a wonderful week here. Although we already had a good impression of Villa Bencani from the photos, we were all very enthusiastic about the house and its location when we arrived. The rooms are of different sizes, but they are all very beautiful. The house is very nicely furnished and the kitchen very well equipped. The region is admirable and offers numerous possibilities for outings. But a lazy day "at home" can also be enjoyed in house, garden and pool. The hosts are very nice, uncomplicated and courteous. All in all absolutely outstanding.
We recently visited Villa Bencani and had the most wonderful stay. The house is superbly located with spectacular views. It has easy access to a local town and smaller villages that are both stunning and quaint in equal measures. It's remote location is ideal if you fancy getting away from hustle and bustle.
There is no shortage of places to go and see if you wish with Groznjan, Motovun, Porec nearby. Slovenia is only 20 minutes away if you feel the need. The valley bounded countryside inspires innumerable cyclists along the safe and perfect roads.
The house itself is spacious and well equipped to fit a family of eight. You can relax in perfect quiet with enchanting views all day and spectacular nightscapes by night.
Thank you very much!.

Villa Bencani is a lovely villa in which to enjoy the stunning surroundings of the Istrian countryside. Beautiful views over the Mirna valley towards Motovam and miles beyond. Very comfortable beds and well appointed kitchen. Local food, wine and hospitality were outstanding. The local village Oprtalj is excellent for morning coffees, local shop and evening dining in the square. The house is perfectly situated for exploring both east and west coasts as well as inland hilltop villages. A wonderful spot to relax and enjoy perfect peace and quiet.
