Discover scenic small bays, pebble and sandy beaches

Booking a villa with private pool in Croatia with My Istria will assure you privacy and a unique way of vacation. It’s just you, your family and friends enjoying hot summer days next to the pool. However, since our villas with pool in Kvarner are only a short drive away from the beach (or some of them even in walking distance from the villa!), it would be a pity not to use the opportunity a go visit one! Beaches in Kvarner are various and everyone can find something tailored for their needs. There are small beaches, large beaches, small-pebble beaches, stone beaches, rocky beaches, sandy beaches, …

We will try to give you a short overview of the beaches in the Kvarner area, with focus on beaches near our villas with pool in Kvarner, starting from Moscenicka Draga all the way to Senj. Besides the suggested list, there are numerous small bays and hidden gems as well, some of them being approachable only by boat.

Moscenicka Draga
The best known beach in Moscenicka Draga is the Sipar beach. This is a 2-kilometre-long pebble beach with turquoise sea accompanied with some areas with big rocks. This beach is quite popular as there are many facilities and it is child friendly. Sipar beach is awarded with the Blue Flag for quality standards and clear sea. Nudists will find their place under the sun at the nudist beach Senjavac, right after the beach Sv. Ivan, which stretches from Sipar beach.

Lovran
Beach Kvarner is the main beach in Lovran. It is a concrete beach with gravel, suitable for children. There are different facilities at disposal and it is possible to relax in the shades underneath pine trees. Beach Kvarner is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.

Icici Beach is one of the largest beaches on the Opatija Riviera. This beach is of concrete and pebbles and offers different facilities and sports. Here you can play beach volleyball, go parasailing, or just enjoy in one of the cafés and restaurants whilst your children play on the children’s playground. Icici Beach beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.

Probably the best known beach in this area is the pebble Beach Medveja, surrounded by pine trees and pleasant scents. This is the perfect choice for families with children, but also young visitors. There are different water sports at disposal and an aqua-park. There are several cafés, bars, cocktail bar and restaurants as well.

Opatija
The main town’s beach in Opatija is beach Slatina. It is mostly concrete, partly sandy and has a ladder to enter the sea. There are several cafés and bars with a view of the Kvarner Bay. It is located right next to the Lungo Mare Promenade and the Croatian Walk of Fame. The beach offers a variety of different facilities, as well for children, and is suitable for persons with disabilities. Slatina beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.

Tomasevac beach is located along the Lungo Mare Promenade. Tomasevac beach was awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea. It is a pebble and sandy beach, suitable for children. At disposal are different sports possibilities such as beach volleyball, pedal boats and other.

Along the Lungo Mare Promenade there is Lipovica beach. This is a gravel beach and partly cobbled beach. It is ideal for families with children as there are shallow shores.

Rijeka
Most of the beaches in Rijeka are located near the city centre so there are easy to reach also by public transport.
Ploce beach is a pebble beach. It is a beach awarded with the Blue Flag for quality standards and clear sea. There are different sport’s facilities at disposal on this beach (for e.g. a beach volleyball court and a complex of swimming pools).

Kostanj beach is a stone and concrete beach, suitable for disabled persons. Facilities and access to the sea are adapted . It is also a Blue Flag beach.

Besides these two, probably the most popular beaches are Glavano beach and Skalete beach. Glavanovo beach is a pebble and concrete beach, ideal for families with children. Access to the sea is shallow and there is natural shade.
Skalete beach is a concrete and rocky beach. It is well visited by the young population. There is a water polo area.

Preluk beach in Rijeka is a pebble and concrete beach. It is also visited by windsurfers.

In Rijeka there are two pet friendly beaches: Brajdica and Kantrida.

Jadranovo
In Jadranovo there are two well known beaches – pebbled beach Havisce surrounded by thick vegetation and a gravel beach, Lucica.

Dramalj
Kacjak beach is a sandy and rocky beach with some paved parts. This beach is quite popular as there are many facilities and different sports possibilities (tennis, badminton, table tennis, mini golf). One part of the beach in the rocky bay is a nudist beach (marked as FKK).

Crikvenica
Crikvenica Town Beach is 1.6-kilmetres-long sandy and pebbled beach. This beach is well visited by families with children as there are shallow sandy shores. Crikvenica Town beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea. There are numerous sport’s facilities at disposal (volleyball, water sports…) and children’s playgrounds. The beach is adjusted for persons with disabilities. There are several cafés, bars and restaurants. One part of the beach is called Beach Crni Molo – a sandy part, suitable for children and playing picigin. An entrance fee needs to be paid for the Crikvenica Town Beach,

Podvorska dog beach is a pebble beach, which is declared as the best Croatian dogs’ beach. On the beach you will find the first Croatian café for dogs.

Selce
Rokan beach is a concrete beach with a hallow sandy part. For this reason, it is suitable for children. At the beach there are different facilities, sports possibilities and a big water slide. Rokan beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.

Polimora beach is a fine pebbled beach with concrete and sandy parts. It is well visited by families with children. At the beach there are different facilities and sports possibilities (for e.g. mini golf and tennis). Polimora beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.

Novi Vinodolski
The most popular beach in town of Novi Vinodolski is beach Lisanj. This rocky, concrete and sandy beach is located in the centre of town. It offers different sports facilities and there is a nice park nearby. Lisanj beach is awarded with the Blue Flags for quality standards and clear sea.
Other beaches nearby are The View, Povile and Skrpun.

Senj
Town Beach Skver is a pebble beach with concreted areas, suitable for families with children.
It is also suitable for persons with disabilities.

Prva Draga is a pebbled beach, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful Senj beaches.

Lukovo beach is a large gravel beach which offers crystal clear sea, peace and quiet, surrounded by Mediterranean trees.

On most of the beaches from the list it is possible to rent sun loungers and sun umbrellas. Most of the beaches from the list have changing rooms, toilettes and some of them are supervised by qualified lifeguards.
All around the above mentioned beaches, you can find something that is called “wild beach”in Croatian – these are usually hidden gems, which are harder to reach (usually a longer walk or drive by boat is necessary) and there are no facilities, but there are not many people and you can get some privacy.
On your arrival to the villa, the villa host will gladly recommend some local beaches or bays to you.
So pack your swimming suit, towel and flip flops, take sun cream, a snorkel mask and fins, and hit the beach! :)
