Porec as a summer destination - discover its beaches, history and restaurants

Porec as a summer destination - discover its beaches, history and restaurants

Much more than sea and sun - Porec

Summer just arrived and your adventure spirit suddenly woke up, eager to try and visit something new. Click on Google Maps. Search for Porec, Croatia. And when you find it, explore it and get some information. Because Porec might be your next holiday destination.

Touristic hotspot Porec on the western part of the largest Croatian peninsula, Istria, offers much more than sea and sun. This is a town with 6.000 years old history, town known for its culture, beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea, sports events and of course numerous restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs. Once a Roman castrum Parentium, this settlement developed into a Roman colony and became a city. Even nowadays Roman traces of the ancient castrum are still visible: the main streets in the city centre are called Decumanus and Cardo.

From the time when the Byzantines ruled over Porec, one of the most amazing early Byzantine churches in Europe was built. It is called Euphrasius’ Basilica and it is located in the heart of Porec’s centre. This well preserved Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica was listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1997. So when in historical centre of Porec, you don’t want to miss it. And actually you cannot miss it because the centre is quite small! ;) The old historical centre of Porec is actually a peninsula where everything is within a short walking distance.

When taking a walk in one of the two already mentioned main streets, Decumanus and Cardo, you can experience the town’s vibe. Small cafés, bars, restaurants, bakeries, small shops,… Just imagine drinking your first morning coffee within just a couple of meters from the sea, watching the small boats on the horizon or expensive yachts in the marina. Or watching the sunset from the old tower which is nowadays a bar.

Atrium in the Euphrasian Basilica - the most valuable cultural property in Porec

But of course, Porec is a summer holiday destination so I have to mention beaches. In the centre of Porec you will find several beaches. Beaches are pebble and rocky. On the left side of the centre of Porec, in a short walking distance you will find a dog friendly beach (there is a sign which indicates this). Just continue and the road will lead you to the beaches and small bays, beach bars, children’s playground and different sports facilities. On the other side of the town, in a short walking distance you can also find numerous beaches and bays. There is also one beach with waterslide, wooouhouuu! In Porec you can also try out a big offer of daily trips or evening excursions by boat which sail from the promenade.

From Porec you can also take a catamaran and go on a daily trip to Venice (Italy).
So come to Porec and stay in one of our beautiful villas with pool in Porec and its area. Until next time – bok! ;)
