Korcula - a paradise for lovers of clear sea, hidden bays, olive trees and wine

Korcula - a paradise for lovers of clear sea, hidden bays, olive trees and wine

Korcula - discover amazing beauties of this hidden island

The real beauty of Korcula lies mainly its untouched nature, as with its lush vegetation, incredibly beautiful beaches and the crystal clear sea, it fascinates likewise locals and visitors again and again.

The small uninhabited island of Proizd is a highlight - awarded several times by travel magazines and web portals as one of the most beautiful islands. Reached from Vela Luka by taxi boat in 30 minutes, it lets its visitors forget everything and captivates with its natural beauty. Ocean currents clean the always cool sea and rounds off the white rocks and stones. You can still see the sea ground even in several meters deep water. Just breathtaking!

Many family-friendly beaches are spread all over Korcula.
The sandy beaches "Vela Przina" in Lumbarda and the somewhat more hidden beach "Istruga" near Brna will make children's eyes shine. "Pupnatska Luka" with its fine pebble beach is surrounded by high rocks and offers a phenomenal view from above. For those who prefer pebble beaches, there are also "Veli Zal" and "Priscapac" in Prizba or "Vaja" and "Samograd" in Racisce. There are plenty of rocky but lonely bays on Korcula, which naturally has a very rough coast anyway. Sometimes you can only get there by boat, but it's definitely worth it!

The residents have the habit of taking Sunday excursions by boat with the whole family and friends during the summer, to one of the inaccessible bays. There they dive, fish, eat lunch, sunbathe, bathe and only go home at sunset… Just do it yourself, you will definitely like it!

But Korcula also has a lot to offer inland: The Kocje reserve near Zrnovo - recognized as a nature reserve since 1962 - takes you to another world. Strange rock formations, moss-covered stone, tall trees and the subdued daylight that permeates through the trees, give you the feeling of being in the middle of a jungle. The diverse Mediterranean vegetation in untouched nature make the hearts of nature lovers beat faster.

In the cooler months, the island's residents mainly take care of their olive groves and vineyards. Here too, the whole family is often included, with the elders mostly performing the advisory and supervisory role, while the younger adults do the work. Children either collect the harvested olives or romp in the wild between the vines. Tourists are often welcome to help with the harvest in autumn and experience first hand how the islanders live.
Visit one of the island's oil mills, e.g. Uljara Zlokic, and see for yourself how the olives get into the bottle.
The small towns of Cara and Smokvica are surrounded by vineyards and famous worldwide for their Posip - one of the best white wines in Croatia. Rukatac, Grk and the dessert wine Prosek are also a must for wine connoisseurs. Several wine festivals offer the ideal opportunity to taste and learn all about the history of viticulture on Korcula.
