Crikvenica is a town in the Kvarner Bay on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Four smaller coastal towns, Dramalj, Jadranovo, Selce and Crikvenica, form the Crikvenica Riviera. The biggest city nearby is Rijeka and it is only 35 km away. The town is so close to Central Europe that it can be reached within a day. An important role in the towns history played the valley Vinodol where, during ancient times, a number of settlements were built along the coast line. This villages were important trade ports at first but later became bigger towns and popular tourist destinations. The bay provided excellent natural shelter and refuge for trade ships. One of these important ports was situated at the mouth of the river Dubracina and it later became the town of Crikvenica. Archaeological finds of swords, daggers, jewellery and remains of prehistoric settlements indicate that the town is at least two thousand years old. The first hotel was built in the late 19th century and after World War I tourism became more and more important.

The rich touristic offer is the result of an excellent geographical position and good infrastructure. The town can also be reached by sea and air. From the south, the island of Krk offers protection from strong winds and from the north there is the mountain Kapela. Due to the absence of strong winds the climate here is very mild.

Here you can find beautiful beaches leading straight into the beautiful blue Adriatic Sea, sandy and romantic ones well hidden in small bays but also pebbly ones and those specifically tailored to contemporary needs of its visitors and tourists, equipped with showers and sunbathing areas.
